Tutor: Prof. Richard Adlam (Richard.Adlam@rkc.edu)

Study title:

Research the factors influencing adoption of an advances vehicular anti-collision system adding an additional layer of data not directly available from the vehicle itself

Dear Participant,

I would like to invite you to take part in a research study. Before you decide, you need to understand why the research is being done and what it would involve for you. Please take time to read the following information carefully. Ask questions if anything you read is not clear or if you would like more information. Take time to decide whether to take part

What is the purpose of the study?
This Research is performed as part of a master’s thesis in Information Systems Management. The scope is to evaluate the factors influencing the adoption of an advanced vehicular anti-collision system, adding an additional layer of data not directly available from the vehicle itself.

Why have I been invited

This survey is created for a research performed as a part of a program “MSc In information systems management” to which the researcher is participating.

Do I have to take part?

It is up to you to decide. We will describe the study and go through the information sheet, which we will give to you. We will then ask you to sign a consent form to show you agreed to take part. You are free to withdraw at any time, without giving a reason…

What will happen to me if I take part?

  • Survey Swap is the platform used to collect survey data.
  • The estimated time to complete the survey is less than 4 minutes.
  • The collection of answers will last until the number of fully answered questions will be sufficient. In any case it will not last more that seven days.
  • The researcher and tutor are available during the survey data collection via email,
  • The entire survey is performed online
  • Access to personal information will be restricted to the researcher and to the University of Salford in case the university would perform a validity check on the thesis written by the researcher.
  • The survey answers will be used to evaluate the factors influencing the adoption of a new concept of anti-collision system relying on data not directly available from onboard sensors. Such a system does not exist at the moment, therefore there is no judgement regarding any existing device or system. Anwers to the survey are analysed in order to understand the adoption intentions using the main theories of information systems management.

Expenses and payments

This survey is totally voluntary and the participant cannot claim any payment or compensation.

What will I have to do?

The survey will be available online and the questions will have pre-defined answers. The participant is requested to answer by selecting the asnwer offering the best choice from his personal perspective.

What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?

What are the possible benefits of taking part?

A possible outcome of the survey data could be findings written the researcher’s thesis, which will be accessible to the students and university members having access to the thesis repository. Those findings will never contain sensitive information enabling the reader to determine the participant identity.

What if there is a problem?

If you have a concern about any aspect of this study, you should ask to speak to the researcher and/or to the tutor, who will do their best to answer your questions via email.

If you remain unhappy and wish to complain formally you can do this through the Online Portal of the University of Salford, Manchester, UK.

Will my taking part in the study be kept confidential?

Data confidentiality will be ensured by the online platform “Survey Swap” and by the researher data, saved into the University repository only. The University of Salford has the right to perform audit tasks in order to verify the validity of data provided by the researcher. This is to prevent the collection of “made up” data and to confirm the validity of the survey.

All information which is collected about you during the course of the research will be kept strictly confidential, and any information about you which leaves your organisation will have your name and address removed so that you cannot be recognised.

What will happen if I don’t carry on with the study?

There are different positions to take on what will happen if a participant withdraws from a study and it up to the researcher to determine what is applicable to their study and ensure that this is clearly communicated to the participant prior to them agreeing to take part. Three possible scenarios include:

If you withdraw from the study all the information and data collected from you, to date, will be destroyed and you name removed from all the study files.

All data collected in the researched work will be anonymous. The outcomes of the researcher’s thesis will be evaluated by the University of Salford which will evaluate the thesis. If the thesis will be saved in the university thesis repository, other students and university staff may use findings to further investigate specific topics. In any case, the participants will remain completely anonymous in the researcher’s thesis.

Who is organising or sponsoring the research?

The University of Salford delivers many programs including the MSc in Information systems management, which is the one the researcher is attending. The researcher is not sponsored by any company or institution.
